    Edit to last
For some reason it won't let me edit my posts to this group.  Weird.

Anyway...  total weight loss so far is actually 8.5.  Can't forget that half pound of win!

If I can lose two more pounds by next week, and be back under 200 for Pennsic, that'll be happy stuff.

    Excellent
    Week 2 weigh-in:  202
Loss since last week:  2.5  (a pound better than I'd thought)
    Total loss so far:  8

Okay, so week 3 is the kick-up-the-exercise week.

How do you feel about Pluto's recent demotion? Should it still be a planet?

OK, I wasn't going to answer this one but I had a few minutes and decided to see what others were writing. Some of it is pretty funnt sh*t. I recommend clicking the 'View other answers' link.

Next question, should we start referring to tomatoes, peppers, and squash as the fruit they are?

So final decision is I'm not going to Pennsic this year. It ends up that when J and I talked and went over all the issues I didn't post about that it just made no sense for me to go. I'm sorry I won't be seeing the people I only get to see there.

Anyway, have a mug of mead or some other fun things for me;)

Spread the word - Need Housing?

I have a friend who's moving West, and says:

"Do you know anyone who wants to rent a condo in Columbia?  That's the other huge concern. There's no way my condo would sell now, the market is too bad. And besides, I'm not prepared to get rid of it just yet. I haven't ruled out moving back in a year."

So... put the word out! Wonder Network Powers, ACTIVATE!

So I bred Princapessa and Alanar and got a red egg.

Don't bother clicking on the green one. He is frozen that way and is never going to grow up. He still needs a name though which is why I posted him today. He is an earth dragon. He likes rocks.

I need to take inventory and decide what I need to try and steal and who I want to breed. I tried to breed my silvers yesterday (or was it Monday?) and they wanted nothing to do with each other.

    Yeah. And stuff.

So Friday as I said I was on my own in the morning. I got the car packed up and realized it was lunchtime. So I was a bad girl and had TacoHell. Just after leaving TacoHell I realized that I didn't have a key to my parents house. I called home, Dad wasn't there. I called J and told him I may be stopping at whereever he was to get his key. Then Dad called back. He'd be home. I then got on the road and realized that the Throgs Neck Bridge will suck more than usual until further notice. It took me an hour and a half to get to Wantagh.

Dad and I unloaded the car. I then went over to Restaurant Depot to get the lay of the land. So glad I did. It made things go smoother Saturday morning. I got some funny looks walking around without a cart though. Then I stopped at the evil Walmart to get a few things we weren't going to be able to get at Restaurant Depot. J met me back at my parent's. I called my Uncle Ron to ask about picking up a cooler and had a funny conversation about my last name. J and I headed to Wantagh Park in hopes of cleaning the grills but there were people in our area so that didn't get done. We got pizza for dinner. J and I were in bed going to sleep at 9:30.

The alarm went off at 6:15. I got in the shower and we were out the door and at Restaurant Depot at 7. One problem was they didn't open until 7:30. I swear Seth told me 7 and I was too stupid to double check. We went in as it opened and bought way too much of everything. Way too much. My father started calling about my Uncle's Surburban and picking up the tables and chairs. Almost as soon as we got back to my parent's J left to get the tables and chairs. Then Rich showed up and I asked him to go pick up the balloons. I started moving everything out of the garage to make loading things into cars less confusing. I also found time to iron my dress. When Rich got back he and I made the first trip down. I didn't leave Wantagh Park until after the picnic was over. Vin and Mike were helping J with the tables and chairs. When they got to the park they helped me with set up.

Everything is pretty much a blur from here on out. Suddenly it was 11am and people started showing up. The Godinas and the Hoffmans were the first to arrive. I think I was still setting up (with lots of help from everyone) until after 12. When J got there with my dress I got changed into it and for me the party started.

I'll write more later, probably tomorrow. Thank you again to everyone who helped get that party started:)

    Travel Tip for Pennsic travelers
I will believe it when I see it, but the AAA website shows gas prices and in Lamar, the price seems to be $3.90 a gallon!!! That could save $5 a tank. If only I could find that price around here (currently $4.25)

Not sure how often it is updated so I will let everyone know.

go to aaa.com click the travel tab, then the triptik planner for the map, then pull down the menu and tell it to show gas stations.

    Crazy Walking Lady
I went a little OCD last night after my binge this weekend.  I walked at work, before dinner and then again after dinner until about 10:30.   By the time I got home, I had jelly legs.  I burned off 1350 calories though, I hope that was enough to keep the Jenny scale from going tilt when I weigh in tonight.

After dinner, I was hemming and hawing about getting out of my chair and going for a walk.   I mimed being stuck to the chair, and kept telling my mother, "I'm going, I'm going," which made her laugh.
After a couple of minutes passed and I still hadn't gotten up, I looked over at Mom and said, "I'm lacking the motivation to get up and go."
She rolled her eyes at me, thought about it for a moment and then said simply, "Pennsic."
So I got up and walked for five miles.

I am so very, very pissy right now. I was not able to find my zen driving place this morning at all. I honked at one guy and gave 2 others the finger. I even did the 'if I slow way down maybe this jerkwad will pass me' maneuver because he was behind me in the right lane with his brights on and I wasn't going to go as fast as I would have needed to in the left lane of the Merrit at that point.

My apartment looks like a snack chip bomb went off in it. I have two ideas what to do with all the chips. One thing is wait for the strike to start and then send them to the picketers. The other is find a local food pantry and donate them. In a related note I have no idea what happened to all the recyclables from the picnic. I hope someone picked them up.

    No decision yet on Pennsic.

I need to post about the picnic.

I have a ton of work to do.

    Quick update
This has been a challenging year financially, and I've really let my eating habits go crazy.  As a result I'm back up about 22 pounds from where I was this time last year.  The prospect of having to be shoe-horned into my armor was the last straw, and I'm back on the WW system, though I'm only monitoring myself, not paying the system or going to meetings.  Terence is being fantastically supportive.

Last week, the first week, I lost 6 pounds.  I know most of that's water.  I'm hoping to get 1.5 pounds off this week.  I'll keep folks posted.

    My Mom is home :)
My Mom came home from the hospital and in all it was a pretty miraculous recovery from her basilar artery aneurysm (specifics are for Sandy).  She'll be moving slowly for the next month or so, but she's very happy to be home and not in a rehab hospital!  Thank you for all of your prayers and support.

Sandy and J's wedding reception was a blast.  It was great to see so many of the Aunts and I think they all enjoyed meeting Benji too.  I tapped the keg, manned the grill for a while, played softball, ate meat and drank mead.  Quite the "manly" day!  We even got to spend some time at the cabana yesterday.  Will need to make that a weekend event some time soon.

Am now completely exhausted from the weekend.  I am doing 5 phone interviews today for the two positions I have open.  Tomorrow will be spent downtown at our Mandarin Oriental, Boston office babysitting Verizon as they install our new circuits.  I might take advantage of our community service activities on Wednesday.  I could a day spent at Waltham Fields, but it may not be practical for me to be out of the office two days in a row.  Thursday and Friday are jam packed with face to face interviews in the office.

IThe regular season for softball wraps up this week and we are on the bubble for making the "C" playoffs at 10-7.  The alternative would be a top seed in the "D" playoffs, but we're so close to the first Eagles appearance in the "C" playoffs that we're quite excited.

I am very much looking forward to performing this weekend.  Hopefully no family member will have a horrible medical emergency and I'll be able to practice quite a bit.

That is all for now.  Must go do more phone interviews now...

    No Tir Thalor Camp
Tir Thalor will not be able to have a camp unless someone shows up at landgrab Saturday morning.

At this point, it looks like I will have to cancel some plans this weekend and go for the benefit of the camp. The camp might have a problem with having a Ghost camp for Sunday night through wednesday.

Is everyone ok with doing single camping this year and losing our priority on the block?

I was only going to go for the middle weekend this year because we have another vacation planned at the end of August.

J just asked me if I was still thinking of going to Pennsic. I told him I was still thinking. I am pre-registered. Because of the desire to have a kid in the next year this is probably my last Pennsic for a few years (I don't think I could go without my kids and I know I wouldn't want to bring a little one there). J can't go. He may be on strike starting that week and because of certain union laws if he isn't on the picket line we lose money. There are more factors in the decision but those are the big ones. If I do go I'm only going for middle weekend and getting a ride with my brother and Jacq. So what do you think?

The silver is female so now I have a mating pair of silvers. That is boring for mating experiments but cool since the male and female silvers actually look different (not so with the other breeds). She needs a name. So does my newly grown up male paper dragon. Origami and Gazette are out. Maybe I'll name him Newsday?

I unfortunately have a lot of meetings today. This means I probably won't get to posting about the picnic until later. But it was a great time.

    Stupid tractor mower
Back in April or May, I'm not sure where this saga began My f-i-l calls me to tell me that he saw this great tractor mower for sale for only $300.00 sounds good to me, at this point I'm not sure how I"m going to get it from CT to NY and neither is my f-i-l. I figured maybe he has an Idea. So he picks up the tractor and has it at his house, does some maintenance on it and it's running great. You see my f-i-l is one of these REALLY handy people who can fix pretty much anything. I can fix some stuff but not electronics.

Well after about two months at his house where he's mowed his lawn several times with it I rent a truck to pick up this miracle of modern machinery. I drive the two hours home with it in the back of the U-haul and get home to discover I can't get it off the truck. Our brand new neighbors have a ramp and he helps me get the tractor off the truck. Did I say it was raining the whole time, yeah it was.

SO now I get it back to my house where i take it for a spin around the lawn, not mowing it of course, because it's raining but it's running great. I put it in the shed for a sunnier day.

At this point dear reader you're probably thinking, what the problem it's sounds fine, well read on, read on.

Two days later I get home from work it hasn't been raining for a few hours now so I decide to mow the lawn. Low and behold it works great cut the lawn and everything, I was calling it mr toads wild ride because of it's herking and jerking up and down hills, it was fun. so I cut like a quarter of the from lawn and I notice it doesn't look like it's cutting anymore so I go over this one spot about five times, it's still the same height. I raise and lower the deck noting is working, it's still running, but that's it. So I decide to hazard a look underneath the deck to see of something is stopping the blades and in fact they are not moving at all I look up and then notice that the belt is broken. Well rides over for today, I'm thinking I'll go tomorrow and get a new belt.

    The next day...

I go out to the shed to start up the tractor and look and see what I have to do and the thing wont start, nothing not even a "click click" of the starter not working.

So here I am paid $300.00 for this thing. $150.00 to bring it our and I can't even mow my F*&%ing lawn.

Now I'm trying to sell it for $300.00 on Craigslist letting people know that it does need to be rewired. I've had about Four inquiries.

    Combo post.

So tons to do today and J is at work. This means lots of trips up and down the stairs to pack the car since we did not want the mead, wine and beer in the trunk of his car all day. I still wonder what we are forgetting. But as I said to my sister last night it will be the middle of the day in our hometown. If we've forgotten something we will send someone out to go get it.

As a reminder to those of you that can make it please bring a mug of your own so I can return some of the keg cups and not use more plastic. And bring something to sit on. There will actually be plenty of benches and some folding chairs but you might be more comfortable on something you bring yourself.

    And we're off!

    Supplement Combo Lowers Cholesterol, Triglycerides
    (from Dr. Weil's weekly news...)

The actual article referred to is here: http://www.mayoclinicproceedings.com/pdf%2F8307%2F8307a2.pdf

Red rice yeast extract plus fish oil seem to lower cholesterol as well as prescription statin drugs. A Pennsylvania research group just published a study showing that the two supplements lowered LDL (“bad”) cholesterol by 42.4 percent compared to 39.6 percent for statins and also led to a substantial reduction in triglycerides. The investigators followed 74 patients whose cholesterol was high enough to justify statin treatment. Each patient was randomly assigned to a group that took the supplement combination or to a group that took 40 mg of a statin daily. The first group also attended educational meetings led by a cardiologist, dietitian, exercise physiologist and alternative or relaxation practitioners. The statin group received printed diet and exercise recommendations. The researchers noted that a bigger, longer study is needed to see if patients can comply with the supplement regimen long-term, citing that up to 40 percent of patients prescribed statins stop taking the drugs within a year. This recognized non-compliance is perhaps because of cost, side effects, poor understanding of the benefits or reluctance to take any drug long-term. They added that good compliance of the supplement group in their study might be due in part to the intensive follow-up and education provided. The findings were published in the July 2008 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings. (from Dr. Weil.com)

    knitting continental
Last night i tried some practice knitting continental style. OH MY it was like i had never knit before! it involves much more intricate left hand movement - yes, duh - but it was way more awkward than i expected. I finally stopped trying to imitate the videos exactly and just tried to do what 'worked' and that helped. My left hand did eventually catch up and i was able to hold the yarn with my index finger, while using the middle finger for manipulation, and the last 2 fingers to hold the needle. Still, it seems like a TON of work for the left hand. i'm sure it will eventually be less awkward but it will take some practice. hmm, i also noticed that my knitting was tighter than it usually is.

also, the method of holding the yarn shown in the knittinghelp.com videos just doesn't work for me. i had to wrap it twice around my pinky AND twice around my index finger in order for it to not keep slipping through my fingers. it also felt like i had less control over it, but i'm hoping that as i my hands get more used to this that feeling will go away.
